You have no criminal record. You or your sponsor have or has sufficient means of support. You do not have tuberculosis. You have health insurance that covers you in the Netherlands. Requirements for each purpose of stay: You will always come to the Netherlands with a certain purpose, for instance to live with your family, work here or study here. The reason for your visit is your purpose of stay. For every purpose of stay different requirements apply and different documents are required. For instance, if you have a spouse in the Netherlands with whom you wish to live you will need to provide a marriage certificate. If you are planning to work for a company in the Netherlands you will need to provide an employment contractSponsor in the Netherlands:It is very important that you have a sponsor in the Netherlands who will, among other things act as a guarantor for you. The sponsor could be the family member you will be living with or the employer who will guarantee your income. It may be that you do not have a sponsor. For instance, you can take up residence on a self employed basis without a sponsor. In such a case there are often additional requirements. You must therefore thoroughly prepare your application for an MVV and a residence permit.Will you need an MVV or not?:Not everyone needs an MVV. Below is an overview of the main nationalities and situations that are exempt from the MVV requirement. This overview is by no means exhaustive. You can find further information on the website (www. ind. nl), which will also be available in English from the summer of 2004 onwards.In the following cases, among others, you will not need an MVV: -You are a national of one of the following countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United States of America, Iceland, Vatican City, Sweden and Switzerland. Finally, there may be extraordinary circumstances that make it impossible for you to apply for an MVV In most cases however you can only apply for a residence permit if you have an MVV. The requirements for each purpose of stay that are listed in the appendix apply to both the MVV and the residence permit. These same documents play a role in both applications so if you have already gathered these documents for your application for an MVV this will make the application for a residence permit easier. The previous part told you whether you need an MVV The MVV is a special visa you need for entering the Netherlands. You also need the MW if you want to apply for a residence permit. How to apply for an MVV:Obtaining information It is advisable to first find out whether you meet the requirements. These requirements depend on the purpose of your stay. You can also find these requirements on the IND site.You can obtain information from the IND. -From the Netherlands via telephone number 0900 1234561 (€ 0.10 per minute)-From countries other than the Netherlands via telephone number +3120 889 30 45. Application for an MVV:You must submit your application for an MVV via the Dutch embassy or the consulate. Submitting your application and paying the fee Sign your application for an MVV and submit it to the Dutch embassy or the consulate together with the required documents. You must pay the Dutch embassy or the consulate a fee for your application, This fee is € 50,= for each MVV. This fee may change. You can find the latest information about fees on www.ind.nl Assessment of the application: The IND will assess your application for an MVV. This procedure may take some time. On average an assessment will take three months. For this reason you should not book your trip to the Netherlands until the MW has been issued. Response to your application: You will receive one of two responses to your application: -You may receive a message from the embassy or the consulate that you can collect your MW. The Dutch representation will attach the MVV sticker to your passport, which you can now use to enter the Netherlands. -Your application for an MW is rejected. If your application for an MW is rejected you will receive a letter (the decision notice)that explains why you have not been granted an MVV You can lodge an objection or appeal against this decision. Please refer to the chapter entitled: ’Lodging an objection or appeal ’. Apply for an MVV with a request for recommendationPrior to your application your sponsor can submit a request for recommendation to the IND so that you will know, in advance, whether you may be eligible for an MW Request for advice: Your sponsor can ask the IND for recommendation to obtain an MVV. To do this your sponsor must use the form entitled ’Request for recommendation to obtain an authorisation for temporary stay ’. This form can be obtained from the IND. Completing the form and gathering the documents: The application form for the MW must be completed in full. Certain documents must be enclosed with this application. What documents are required depends on your purpose of stay. Sending your application:The request for recommendation must be sent to the IND. Instructions on how do this, a return envelope and address labels are enclosed with the application form. Assessment of the request for advice: The IND will assess the request for recommendation. If the response to the request for recommendation is positive, you will need to attend the Dutch embassy or the consulate to officially submit your application for an MW.
